With his laid-back, straight vocals and large, imposing build, Don Williams came to be known as "the Gentle Giant." That nickname was bestowed on him in the early '70s, when he began a string of countrypolitan hits that ran into the early '90s. Williams was never known as an trailblazer, but his ballads were vastly popular; in the course of his career, he had a tally of 17 issue nonpareil hits.

Theodore Samuel Williams began playing guitar when he was shaver, encyclopedism the official document from his mother. As a teenager, he played in a form of country, rockabilly, folk, and stone & roll bands. After complementary high school, he formed his kickoff circle with a friend called Lofton Kline. Williams and Kline recruited another singer, Susan Taylor, and formed the Pozo-Seco Singers, a folk-pop radical, in 1964. The following year, the band signed a contract with Columbia Records. In 1966, the Pozo-Seco Singers had a pop up hit with "Time," which climbed into the Top 50. For the next deuce age, they had a series of minor hits, highlighted by 2 Top 40 hits in late 1966, "I Can Make It With You" and "Look What You've Done." The radical stayed until 1971.

After the Pozo-Seco Singers disbanded, Williams distinct to pursue a calling as a songwriter in Nashville, since he wasn't convinced that he was suited for a solo career. He signed with Jack Clement's Jack Music, Inc., initially just as a songster. By the ending of 1972, he had gestural with JMI as a solo artist, cathartic "Don't You Believe" as his debut. The song went nowhere, but "The Shelter of Your Eyes" climbed to number 14 at the rootage of 1973. For the next year, Williams scored a drawing string of minor hits earlier he had his 1974 breakthrough, "We Should Be Together," which reached number five-spot. The individual light-emitting diode to a shrink with ABC/Dot.

"I Wouldn't Want to Live If You Didn't Love Me," his number one individual for ABC/Dot, reached number one in the summer 1974. The individual launched a string of Top Ten hits that ran more or less uninterrupted until 1991; betwixt 1974 and 1991, only quadruplet of his 46 charting singles didn't make the Top Ten. Instead of arrival the top of the charts with his original material, virtually of his big hits were covers of other songwriters, including John Prine, Bob McDill, Dave Loggins, and Wayland Holyfield.

During the '70s, Don Williams became the well-nigh successful nation artist in the world. His country-pop non only crossed over into the American pop mainstream, it too gained him a large following in England and Europe. In gain to his Top Ten hits, Williams won several nation music awards, highlighted by the Country Music Association naming him Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978, the same year his number one unmarried "Tulsa Time" was named Single of the Year. In the late '70s, he began performing, appearance chiefly in the films of his booster Burt Reynolds, including W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings and Smokey and the Bandit II.

In the other '80s, Williams slowed down the pace of his career somewhat, as he was suffering from gage problems. Nevertheless, the hits continued to come in and many of his singles reached numeral i. In 1986, he left hand MCA Records -- wHO had acquired the ABC judge patch he was recording for it -- sign language with Capitol. The change in labels didn't strike his career at all, as he continued to hit the Top Ten with geometrical regularity. In 1987, he underwent indorse surgical process, which cured his problems.

Williams gestural with RCA Records in 1989. Initially, he continued to get hits, simply his streak came to an goal in early 1992, undermentioned his net Top Ten single, "Jehovah Have Mercy on a Country Boy." Although he continued to perform in the mid-'90s, he had efficaciously retired to his Nashville produce, reversive to recording in 1998 with I Turn the Page.

'Entertainment Tonight' keeping mum on Jolie-Pitt twins snafu

In the world of celebrity news, prematurely declaring the birth of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twins is like calling an election before enough votes are counted.

That was the problem facing the TV show "Entertainment Tonight," which on Monday would not discuss its report that Jolie had given birth, even though Pitt's manager and other news organizations had declared it untrue.

"This is an absolutely huge, huge story for us," said Sarah Ivens, editor in chief of OK! magazine. "Essentially you have two of the most beautiful, famous people in the world. We've all seen they've had one baby, Shiloh, and it is the coolest, most adorable baby on the planet. And this time they're having two? It can't get any better."

It was "pandemonium" at the offices of Us Weekly when the "Entertainment Tonight" report was posted Friday morning, said Dina Sansing, the magazine's entertainment director.

People magazine was first to report that the story was not true. Us Weekly checked its own sources and concluded the same, Sansing said.

During its broadcast on Friday night, "Entertainment Tonight" said that "a source who says she was inside the delivery room tells us yes, the babies were born and yes, mother and babies are doing fine." The newsmagazine also quoted another website in giving the babies' alleged names.

Later, however, the story was removed from the "Entertainment Tonight" website. A representative from the show, who refused to speak on the record, said Monday that the story had not been retracted. The representative would not comment on whether the show had checked back with the original source after Pitt's manager denied the births.

The show's veteran executive producer, Linda Bell Blue, did not return a call seeking comment on Monday.

"Entertainment Tonight" didn't mention the story on Monday's broadcast. It did, however, pick up quotes from a magazine interview with Angelina Jolie about being married.

The report of the babies' birth was magnified when The Associated Press reported that "Entertainment Tonight" had said the twins had arrived. Although The AP could not immediately confirm or debunk the report, its editors talked with an "Entertainment Tonight" spokeswoman about the source and "we felt confident that they had the story nailed down," said Lou Ferrara, AP managing editor who supervises entertainment coverage.

The AP also felt that "Entertainment Tonight" had a solid reputation in the world of celebrity news, he said.

The story shifted as the day went on Friday, with other celebrity publications posting anonymous denials, and then AP quoting Pitt's manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, saying it was not true.

The incident has damaged the AP's relationship with "Entertainment Tonight," Ferrara said.

"If you have the story, stand up and shout it from the mountaintops," he said. "If you've got it wrong, you've got to shout it from the mountaintops that you've got it wrong."

A competing newsmagazine, "Access Hollywood," specifically told viewers that its rival had blown it.

"As news and information move at a lightning pace, it's all the more reason to be right first than first wrong," said Rob Silverstein, "Access Hollywood" executive producer.

Jolie has said the babies are due in August. Ivens said OK! grew more comfortable over the weekend that the "Entertainment Tonight" story was wrong because of other clues. There were no reports of flowers being delivered to hospitals, or grandparents flying in, she said, and Pitt was seen attending a sporting event over the weekend - an unlikely spot for a new father of premature twins.

Rihanna to launch own underwear lines

Washington (ANI): Barbadian singer Rihanna has revealed that she might launch her own underwear collection. Cannes Film Festival - St Trinians Set For Second Cinema Field Trip

The girls of St Trinian's will return to the screen in 2009, Ealing Studios has confirmed.

Unveiling its international roster at the Cannes film festival, the legendary British production house confirmed a follow-up to the 2007 box office hit will begin shooting in January 2009.

Russell Brand, Colin Firth and Rupert Everett starred in the revival of the classic comedy series while Gemma Arterton - who played the head girl of the unorthodox school - used the film as a launching pad to win a role in Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond movie.

The directing team of Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson will again helm the project with Thompson telling Variety he hopes the majority of the St Trinian's cast members will return for St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold.

"It would be good with St Trinians to get the old gang back in," he added.

But for Dorian Gray, Parker's upcoming adaptation of the Oscar Wilde novel, the pair are planning a "sexy, contemporary feel".

Other Ealing Studios films announced included Where Hands Touch, the second film from Bafta-winner Amma Asante.

The historical drama tells of a mixed-race German girl who falls in love with the son of a high-ranking SS officer.

Natalie Brenner, the studio's head of international sales, said Asante's script "blew us all away".

"She is interested in dealing with racial issues in a difference way," she added.

Gosford Park screenwriter Julian Fellowes also featured in the festival announcement, with his wartime drama From Time To Time set to begin shooting imminently.
